condolences are coming in from all around the world for the country music icon who lost his battle with cancer last Monday one of Toby's closest friends coach Barry Switzer shared some of his favorite memories with our Robin Marsh Toby knew everybody and everybody certainly knew him and he had a lot of people that he was close to but he was close to my family coach Barry Switzer says we lost a giant of a man when Toby Keith died in fact I didn't have any sleep tonight this happened and then I had so many calls and textas I asked coach Switzer to come and share about the man he loves so much he told me the story when he first met Toby Keith this was back in the 90s Barry was the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys and he came home to Norman for the alumni football game the country music singer Toby Keith was determined to play ball coach Switzer told Toby that wasn't a good idea and I told Toby right before he went the game I stand on Sidelines I said toy don't go out there you L get hurt you know going out there and he said oh know I can handle this D first play they break his ankle I wouldn't ever let him get over it boy he just got crushed there goes the show and Tulsa tonight huh I hated that for him but he went on and we've had a few laughs about it that was the start of a friendship that lasted for three decades Barry holds tight to the memories he has with Toby Keith spent living life together the 86 6-year-old Switzer says he never thought Toby though would leave this earth before him recalling what Toby once told Barry's son he told him said I'm at Coach's funeral I'm going I'm going to blow it away I'm going to play all the songs all the songs he like so he said I'm going to take it over told the hunter that and uh and now now it's just you know boom it's I'll be going to his service instead of and going to mine there wasn't anyone really like him no there won't be another Toby Keith there'll be some country music singers but there won't be a Toby Keith not for Oklahoma anyway Robin Marsh Oklahoma Zone news9 what beautiful memories there and Thursday at 10: see something special Toby did for Coach Switzer that he's going to cherish for a lifetime
