City of Edmond working to connect walking trails

BROADCASTERS BEST NEWSCAST AWARD. 2 YEARS IN A ROW. >> WELL, IT'S BEEN A PROJECT IN THE WORKS FOR ABOUT 2 DECADES. THE CITY OF EDMOND WANTS TO CONNECT WALKING TRAILS AROUND THE AREA AND AS NEWS FOUR'S, KATELYN OGLE TELLS US IT APPEARS THE WORK IS ABOUT TO PICK UP THE PACE. THE CITY SAYS IT ALREADY HAS A GREAT TRAIL SYSTEM, BUT IT'S ALL BROKEN UP. BUT THEY'RE GETTING CLOSER TO THEIR GOAL OF CONNECTING ALL OF THEM BY WORKING ON THE TRAILS. >> HERE AT LAKE ARCADIA. >> THERE'S DEFINITELY A LOT OF MOMENTUM RIGHT NOW. CASEY MOORE WITH THE CITY OF EDMOND SAYS RESIDENTS HAVE ALWAYS LIKE TO HIT THE PAVEMENT. WE HEAR FROM RESIDENTS ALL THE TIME. THEY WANT MORE TRAILS IN THE LATE 90'S. THE CITY CAME UP WITH THE MASTER PLAN TO DEVELOP A LARGE CONNECTING SYSTEM OF TRAILS SO PEOPLE CAN GET FROM ONE SIDE OF THE CITY TO ANOTHER WITHOUT HAVING TO STEP OFF. WE'VE GOT A REALLY GREAT TRAIL SYSTEM NOW. BUT IT'S IT'S TOPPED UP ONE OF THOSE SYSTEMS AS THE SPRING CREEK TRAIL RUNNING FROM UNDER I-35 BY INTEGRIS HOSPITAL ALL THE WAY TO THE SPRING CREEK PARK ON 15TH AT ARCADIA DEAD ENDING AT THE LAKE THAT WE HAD ANOTHER SIGNIFICANT TRAIL THAT WAS BUILT IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ODOT ALONG SECOND STREET 66.

>> THAT RUNS ESSENTIALLY FROM ONE OF OUR LAKE PARKS ALL THE WAY OVER TO POST ROAD AS FIRST REPORTED BY THE OKLAHOMAN. THE CITY COUNCIL RECENTLY ACCEPTED 3 BILLION DOLLARS IN FUNDING TO HELP BUILD AND DESIGN 3 NEW SECTIONS OF TRAILS ON THE WEST AND NORTH SIDES OF ARCADIA. >> WELL, THE NEW DEVELOPMENT DOESN'T COMPLETE THE SYSTEM. IT WILL INCH THE CITY CLOSER TO ITS GOALS. WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A NEW TRAIL PROJECTS. >> EVERY YEAR FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE TRYING TO BUILD OUT THIS TRAIL SYSTEM. >> IN EDMOND, KAITLIN, NOBLE, OKLAHOMA'S NEWS. 4 CITY COUNCILORS ALSO SAY $800,000 WILL PARTLY USED TO BUILD A SECTION .
