Oklahoma County Jail locations narrowed down to three sites

BODY COMING UP IN THE WEATHER. THANK YOU, MIKE. OKLAHOMA COUNTY COMMISSIONERS NARROWING THE LIST OF WHERE TO BUILD A NEW JAIL. THAT LIST NOW DOWN TO 3 LOCATIONS IN ONE OF THEM BLAND. THAT'S REALLY NOT FOR SALE IN THE STOCKYARDS NEWSOURCE. TAYLOR MITCHELL WAS AT TODAY'S MEETING IN TAYLOR. IT WAS PACKED. >> THAT'S RIGHT. A CROWD GATHERED FOR TODAY'S MEETING. THE ROOM SO PACKED IT WAS OVER CAPACITY AND THE FIRE MARSHAL DEEMED IT A FIRE HAZARD. SOME COMMUNITY MEMBERS WE SPOKE WITH TODAY GOT WHAT THEY WANTED, OTHERS DID NOT. >> YOUR BACKYARD. AS YOU CAN YOU KNOW, I WAS JAIL IN YOUR BACKYARD. COMMISSIONER A LARGE CROWD AT WEDNESDAY MORNING'S OKLAHOMA COUNTY COMMISSIONER MEETING WITH THOSE OPPOSING POSSIBLE JAIL LOCATIONS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. THE COMMISSIONERS HAVE BEEN EXPLORING RIGHT AWAY. COMMISSIONERS MOTIONS TO REMOVE THE LOCATION AT SOUTH EAST 29TH STREET WEST OF THE KICKAPOO TURNPIKE. THE VOTE SUCCESSFUL. >> FOLLOWING A NUMBER OF PUBLIC COMMENTS REGARDING THE LOCATION AT 15TH IN GRAND IN SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA CITY AND RENO AND MLK BOULEVARD NEAR THE JFK NEIGHBORHOOD.

COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MOTIONS TO REMOVE THOSE AS SECOND. >> I PLUS AN OFFICIAL WORD FROM THE AIRPORT. REST DENYING THEIR OFFER TO BUILD AT SOUTH NEW CASTLE ROAD IN SOUTH WEST 54TH STREET FINALLY RECEIVED. THE REJECTION WERE OFFICIALLY REFUSING OUR OFFER FROM THE AIRPORT AUTHORITY. SO THAT ELIMINATES THE SITE OF THE 2. >> BEING LOCATED ON THE AIRPORT, TRUST LAND 54TH ALSO ON THE LIST UNINCORPORATED LAND NEAR I-40 AND I-44 OWNED BY THE OKLAHOMA NATIONAL STOCKYARDS PRESIDENT JERRY REYNOLDS SAYS THERE IS A MASTER PLAN TO EXPAND ONTO THE PROPERTY.

HOWEVER, IT WOULD NOT WORK WITH THE JAIL THERE. WE WANT TO SAFEGUARD FUTURE AFTER HEARING FROM SEVERAL OPPOSING THE STOCKYARD LOCATION, THE MOTION TO REMOVE IT WAS MOTION TO STRIKE TO ALSO. >> 0ND. >> MOTION DIES. FOR LACK OF A I DON'T UNDERSTAND THERE WAS NOT A SECONDARY CONSIDERATION. THE CURRENT JAIL LOCATION IN DOWNTOWN OKLAHOMA CITY IS NOT OFFICIALLY OFF THEIR LIST. BUT OKLAHOMA COUNTY COMMISSIONERS SAY THEY'RE NOT CONSIDERING IT IS AN OPTION RIGHT NOW. IF WE STAY ON THE CURRENT SITE, WE HAVE TO BUY UP QUITE A BIT OF LAND AND IT STILL WOULDN'T BE THE DESIGN THAT WE WANT.

NOW, 3 LOCATIONS REMAIN, INCLUDING THE STOCKYARDS SITE, THE CURRENT JAIL LOCATION AND A NEW ONE THAT WAS ADDED TO THE LIST AT THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF SOUTHWEST 74TH IN ROCKWELL NEAR THE WILL ROGERS AIRPORT. I THINK WE'RE READY TO MAKE SOME DECISIONS IN THE NEXT WEEK OR SO. >> OKLAHOMA COUNTY COMMISSIONERS SAY THEY ARE GO.
