SUPERINTENDENT RYAN WALTERS. HERE'S KOCO ANDY WEBER. I'VE TALKED TO THE SPEAKER THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS. HIM AND I HAVE HAD SEVERAL CONVERSATIONS. AND LOOK, WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO WORK TOGETHER TO IMPROVE OKLAHOMA EDUCATION. LAST WEEK, STATE SUPERINTENDENT RYAN WALTERS WOULDN'T SAY IF HE PLANNED TO RESPOND TO A SUBPOENA. FROM HOUSE LAWMAKERS THAT ASKED ABOUT TEACHER RECRUITMENT, SCHOOL PERFORMANCE AND EMPLOYEE COMMUNICATION POLICY. SPEAKER AND I HAVE A GREAT RELATIONSHIP. WE'RE GOING TO DEAL WITH THE ISSUES THAT HAVE BEEN CREATED. THERE, BUT THAT'S GOING TO BE BETWEEN THE SPEAKER AND MYSELF. BUT ACCORDING TO EMAILS PROVIDED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, WALTERS HAD TO REPLY TO THE SUBPOENA WITHIN THE SAME DAY THE SUBPOENA WAS ISSUED DECEMBER 19TH, AND WALTERS SENT AN EMAIL TO HOUSE SPEAKER CHARLES MCCALL A LITTLE AFTER 5 P.M. WHEN ASKED ABOUT TEACHER RECRUITMENT, WALTERS SAID HIS DEPARTMENT RECEIVED 960 APPLICATIONS AS PART OF HIS EFFORT TO RECRUIT OUT OF STATE AND FORMER TEACHERS, AND THAT THE DEPARTMENT MET WITH LOCAL SUPERINTENDENTS TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PROGRAM. A LIST OF THOSE WHO APPLIED WAS NOT PROVIDED TO KOCO FIVE. IN AN EFFORT TO SHIELD THE APPLICANTS PERSONAL INFORMATION, WALTERS ALSO ANSWERED A QUESTION ABOUT WHICH SCHOOLS HAVE STUDENT POPULATIONS NOT PERFORMING AT GRADE LEVEL.
WALTERS TOLD MCCALL. DISTRICTS INCLUDE OKLAHOMA CITY, MIDDLE WESTERN HEIGHTS, ENID AND SHAWNEE PUBLIC SCHOOLS. WALTERS WAS ALSO ASKED TO PROVIDE EMAIL RECORDS FROM AN OLD ADDRESS HE HAD WHILE WORKING AT A SCHOOL CHOICE GROUP HERE IN OKLAHOMA TO. THOSE EMAILS WERE SUPPOSED TO DEAL WITH THINGS LIKE EDUCATION QUALITY AS WELL AS SCHOOL PERFORMANCE, BUT WALTERS TOLD MCCALL HE NO LONGER HAD.
